Lawrence Weiner
n°06

LAWRENCE WEINER was born in the New York Bronx in 1942. He is associated with the origins of Conceptual Art in the 1960's. His works are primarily in the form of language, visual or oral, presenting direct questions about art and life. As it produces objects of a sort not usually associated with art, Weiner's work is not a source of easy pleasure. On the contrary, it asks for the viewers' involvement and makes demands on their intelligence and desires. When asked about this issue of Point d'ironie, he states:

WHEN & IF AN OBJECT IS WHAT IT IS & NOT A METAPHOR FOR SOMETHING ELSE THIS OBJECT HAVING ARRIVED AT THE FACT IS NOT OBLIGATED IN ANY WAY TO TAKE A GIVEN DIRECTION
